Role Overview
The Head of HNW Underwriting reports directly to the COO of Group Wealth and oversees the global HNW underwriting framework across Bermuda and future Wealth Hubs. The role involves establishing consistent standards, guidelines, and operating models, while leading a team of specialist underwriters in multiple markets. Success is measured by the implementation of robust governance, technical excellence, and an optimised customer experience.
Key Skills & Experience
- Lead the development of global underwriting strategy, philosophy, and governance for Wealth Hubs
- Manage technical underwriting for complex HNW cases, trusts, offshore structures, and international clients
- Oversee and improve underwriting outcomes, standards, and claims adjudication processes
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Distribution, Legal, Risk, and Compliance
- Build and develop high-performing underwriting teams across multiple territories

Key Responsibilities
- Develop and own Wealth underwriting strategy and governance across all Hubs, including Bermuda
- Define long-term underwriting operating models supporting current and future platforms
- Provide technical guidance on complex cases and claims, ensuring consistency and quality
- Establish and maintain risk frameworks, oversight of underwriting and claims governance
- Lead initiatives to streamline policies, increase automation, and enhance customer experience
- Forge trusted relationships with external partners, brokers, and internal stakeholders
- Manage and develop a team of Wealth specialist underwriters across multiple markets
Requirements
- University degree in Business, Insurance, Risk Management or related discipline
- Professional Life Insurance qualification (e.g., FLMI, ACS or equivalent) preferred
- 18+ years of life insurance underwriting experience, with at least 10 in HNW or complex underwriting
- Proven leadership experience managing specialist teams across multiple jurisdictions
- Knowledge of trusts, premium financing, offshore structures, and financial underwriting
- Experience with reinsurers, underwriting transformation, and governance initiatives
- Strong stakeholder engagement skills across diverse teams and senior leadership
- Fluency in English, with excellent written and verbal communication skills
